LeddarTech and STMicroelectronics are working to develop a LiDAR Evaluation Kit. The new kit will demonstrate the technical concepts of a fully-functioning LiDAR, based on LeddarEngine technology, for suppliers and system integrators.
“Teaming up with ST, renowned for its Smart Driving and Smart Industry technology and its MEMS mirror-based laser-beam scanning solutions, enables LeddarTech to offer innovative LiDAR automotive and industrial solutions to the market,” explained Michael Poulin, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Corporate Development, LeddarTech.
“Designed with demanding automotive and industrial applications in mind, ST’s MEMS mirror-based laser-beam scanning solutions are ideal for a broad range of high-performance, high-accuracy, and high-reliability applications,” said Anton Hofmeister, Group Vice President, General Manager, MEMS Microactuator Division at STMicroelectronics.
Reducing Time to Market & Cost
The forthcoming evaluation kit will target automotive front LiDAR applications for higher speeds like highway pilot and traffic-jam assist, along with industrial and robotics LiDAR applications. Both LeddarTech and STMicroelectronics say the collaboration will help provide a safe and viable path to volume deployment in these areas.
“This collaboration shrinks customers’ time to market and reduces development costs and risks while delivering the benefits of an open platform model with high flexibility and opportunity for customization, differentiation, and added value,” Poulin said. “Combining ST’s technology with other select members’ expertise, working synergistically as part of the Leddar Ecosystem, we are collectively providing all the key ingredients to deploy LiDAR at scale.”
“ST is pleased to join forces with LeddarTech and its partners and contribute with its skills and technologies, to the benefit of customers who develop advanced LiDAR applications that increase safety and convenience across all target markets,” Hofmeister added.
Ongoing Relationships & Partnerships
LeddarTech’s kit will include ST’s MEMS mirror-based laser-beam scanning solutions along with technologies, products, and services from other LeddarTech ecosystem partners. STMicroelectronics is the latest to join the ecosystem, described by LeddarTech as the only open and comprehensive LiDAR platform option for OEMs and Tier1s. LeddarTech announced a similar partnership with First Sensor AG last year for the development of a LiDAR Evaluation Kit.
