Celebrating In-Cabin AI Excellence

At AutoTech: Detroit 2024, Eyeris dominated headlines by winning two of the most sought-after awards in the automotive industry: Automotive Tech Company of the Year and Automotive Product of the Year. Both were announced during the AutoTech Awards on June 4th, 2024, in Novi, Michigan, where Modar Alaoui, founder and CEO of Eyeris, accepted the honors on behalf of the company.

“This momentous achievement underscores our genuine and longstanding commitment to innovation and our relentless pursuit of excellence in human-centric, in-cabin sensing AI,” Alaoui said following the ceremony. “It’s a testament to the hard work and commitment of every member of our team, who unequivocally deserves this recognition.”

The AutoTech Awards are a prestigious event that recognizes the exceptional skills, companies, products, and services within the automotive technology industry. In conjunction with the WardsAuto editorial and Wards Intelligence analyst teams, a judging panel utilizes a comprehensive set of criteria to determine the winners. The 2024 ceremony included nine distinguished awards spanning three distinct categories, with Eyeris winning the two aforementioned awards.

2024 marked the 10th consecutive nomination for Eyeris as a finalist at AutoTech: Detroit, making Eyeris the world’s most awarded automotive in-cabin sensing AI company. “Our partners and customers have also made this success possible,” Alaoui said. “Our success is built on strong industry partnerships with leading automakers and tier 1 suppliers.”

Automotive Product of the Year Award

This AutoTech Award honors Eyeris’ in-cabin monocular 3D sensing AI for whole-cabin monitoring, which addresses the industry-wide lack of depth-aware interior sensing data. Judges described the technology during AutoTech: Detroit 2024 as a “breakthrough with sensitivity to costs” that allows for “increased safety and rider experience” along with higher levels of automation.

“Eyeris’ Automotive Product of the Year winning AI-powered cabin sensing technology checks all the boxes,” said Dave Zoia, Senior Director of Content at Wards Intelligence. “It has the potential to increase safety, provide a better user experience for vehicle occupants, help advance driving automation, and meet regulatory requirements—all while keeping a lid on costs and limiting the amount of compute power required.”

Here is a closer look at the individual attributes of Eyeris that led to the company winning the Automotive Product of the Year award:

Technological Advancements & Industry Leadership

Eyeris’ first-mover advantage is demonstrated by its innovative monocular 3D sensing, advanced sensor fusion, flexible and efficient processing, and proactive anticipation of future regulations. These technological advancements enable new applications and reinforce Eyeris’ leadership in the industry.

“Eyeris impressed our judges in a number of ways,” Zoia explained. “Its breakthrough 3D sensing technology and AI innovation puts the developer on firm footing in the all-important and still-emerging area of the digital cockpit.”

Monocular 3D Sensing Breakthrough

Eyeris’ monocular 3D sensing technology was acknowledged onstage as an industry game-changer during the 2024 AutoTech awards. By enabling 3D perception from conventional 2D cameras, they offer a cost-effective and efficient solution for whole-cabin monitoring. With this approach, Eyeris eliminates the need for expensive and complex 3D sensors, making advanced in-cabin monitoring accessible to a broader range of vehicles and applications. Eyeris first introduced this breakthrough capability at the 2022 inaugural InCabin conference in Brussels.

“Eyeris’ innovative AI software transforms conventional 2D cameras into 3D perception systems, significantly enhancing the capabilities of driver monitoring systems while maintaining cost-efficiency and reducing complexity,” said Kevin Mak, Principal Analyst for Automotive Market Analysis at TechInsights.

Additionally, Eyeris’ portfolio of in-cabin sensing models is more comprehensive than what the current market offers, encompassing models for understanding the human behavior of vehicle occupants, such as their faces, upper bodies, hands, and objects. This breadth of advanced AI models further strengthens Eyeris’ leadership in the field. Eyeris first introduced its human behavior understanding AI at CES 2018, highlighting its early pioneering position in the industry.

“Its product portfolio is highly versatile and fits both personal- and fleet-vehicle applications,” Zoia added.

Advanced Sensor Fusion Capabilities

Eyeris’ expertise in sensor fusion is a key differentiator. First introduced at CES 2020, this capability integrates data from image sensors, radar, and thermal imagers to ensure a comprehensive and precise understanding of the in-cabin environment, setting its offerings apart in the market. While optional yet critical, this capability accommodates diverse customer needs among automotive manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers.

Flexible & Efficient Processing

Eyeris’ in-cabin 3D sensing software supports flexible AI-enabled processors and chips, offering unique processing capabilities. Specifically, one capability is designed for the latest image sensor processors, as recently announced in partnership with industry leaders OMNIVISION and Indie Semiconductor, who currently provide processing throughput of two TOPS and more while maintaining computational efficiency without additional hardware demands.

Additionally, Eyeris seamlessly integrates with processors from Texas Instruments, Xilinx/AMD, Ambarella, Qualcomm, and STMicroelectronics for added flexibility. Eyeris ensures that both AI processing capabilities target computational efficiency comparable to 2D systems, further enhancing their appeal to the automotive industry. Eyeris’ AI model inference flexibility and efficiency are among the main factors that differentiate it from other solutions on the market.
