Fleet management technology company KeepTruckin has selected Ambarella’s CV22 CVflow edge AI vision system on chip (SoC) for its new AI Dashcam. As described by the companies, the AI Dashcam employs a single CV22 SoC to provide AI and image processing for the dual-camera system simultaneously. This effectively integrates one front camera for advanced driver assistance features with incident recording and a second RGB-IR camera for the driver-monitoring system (with driver recording).

How It Works
Ambarella’s CV22 enables the AI Dashcam to run KeepTruckin’s proprietary AI algorithms for high-risk behavior detection, complete with active warnings, on a small form factor device with minimal heat dissipation. Front ADAS features enabled by the CV22 include warnings for close following, lane departures, forward collisions, and speeding, among others. Using the same SoC, running multiple simultaneous neural network models, the in-cabin camera will monitor for fatigue, distraction, and policy violations, such as contextual cell phone and seatbelt usage, combined with data from the front camera.
The AI Dashcam connects to the KeepTruckin Vehicle Gateway, which uploads the pre-analyzed data, video, and still images to KeepTruckin’s cloud-based fleet management software in real-time. The CV22 SoC integrates Ambarella’s image signal processor, which provides 1440p resolution HDR video across all lighting conditions, utilizes its on-chip H.264/H.265 encoding to reduce the transmission bandwidth and storage costs. According to Ambarella, KeepTruckin can upload additional features to the CV22 via over-the-air software updates.

Ambarella’s technology is now a core part of the Arrival Bus and Van and Motional’s driverless vehicle fleet. In 2020, Ambarella announced a collaboration with OmniVision Technologies and Smart Eye for a joint solution that monitors drivers while capturing vehicle occupants for one-way video conferencing. Ambarella is also active in the automotive enthusiast market, supplying the A12 processor for the Cobra Road Scout sold by Cedar Electronics.
